「お念仏をとなえれば、誰もが極楽浄土に往生できる」、この教えを掲げ浄土宗を開き、生涯をかけて説き広められた法然上人のご遺徳を偲ぶ法要を御忌（御忌大会）といいます。
詠唱とは、節を付けて歌をうたうこと。浄土宗では、仏教歌謡の一つであるご詠歌と、仏教讃歌の一種である和讃、および舞を吉水流詠唱といいます。仏に親しみ、そのお徳を讃える歌をとなえます。
大本山増上寺吉水講講員により、御忌大会期間の２日間、大殿において詠唱を奉納いたします。

Honen Shonin (1133–1212), founder of the Japanese Jodo Shu of Buddhism, proclaimed and propagated the teaching that by chanting the name of the Amida Buddha anyone can come to dwell in the Pure Land. The Gyoki Daie Ceremonies are held to commemorate his death and great virtues.
The Jodo Shu sect of Buddhism employs eisho stanza songs of a type called eika, Buddhist hymns of a kind called waka, and dance music called Yoshimizu-ryu eisho. All these musical forms bring one closer to the Buddha and praise the Buddha virtues.
Eisho offerings are made by Yoshimizu-ryu Eisho instructors of the Zojoji in front of the Main Hall for two days during the Gyoki Daie ceremonies.
