19世紀の初めに大工が製作したものが、加茂桐簞笥の始まりと伝えられています。昭和の初めに「矢車塗装（やしゃとそう）」が開発されて、現在の桐箪笥のデザインが完成しました。加茂では全国の桐箪笥の70％を生産し、北海道から九州まで広く全国に出荷しています。

The first Kamo paulownia chest was made by a carpenter in the early 19th century.
The present look of Kamo paulownia chests dates back to 1928 with the development of yashatoso varnish. Today, 70% of the paulownia chests made in Japan are produced Kamo and shipped all over the country.
