14世紀初め頃に隣接する信楽焼と同じ甕（かめ）や壷、すり鉢などが生産され始め、17世紀には古伊賀と呼ばれる豪放で力強い茶陶の水指や花入れが作られました。18世紀中頃に藤堂藩の支援で日常の食器類の生産が始まり、今日の伊賀焼の基礎が築かれました。

In the early 14th century, pottery like earthen ware grinding bowls, crocks or pots were produced. At the beginning of the 17th century, water jugs and flower vases which for tea ceremony were produced with dynamic and strong aesthetic sence. At the middle of the 18th century, with the support of Todo clan, pottery for daily use was produced in Marubashira village and this established the foundation of modern Iga ware.
