50年を超える歴史のある昭島市民くじら祭は、1961年8月に市内の多摩川河川敷で新種のくじらの化石が発見されたことにその名を由来し、いまでは昭島の夏を彩る風物詩となっています。その祭りの中で行われる「夢花火」は、コンパクトな規模ながらも距離が近く迫力のある打ち上げ花火イベントとして親しまれています。2024年8月24日に開催された市制施行70周年記念昭島市民くじら祭夢花火は、30分で約2,000発を打ち上げるというもので、雨が断続的に降る中で決行され、夏の終わりの思い出として多くの人々の心に刻まれました。
